Visiting Saudi Arabia, the country of many outstanding World Heritage sites, will soon become much easier to travel to due to its plans to start issuing electronic visas to foreign citizens, including non-Muslim citizens. Until recently, the country has been closed off to visitors except for religious and business-purpose visits.
This initiative came as a result of the country’s mission to make Saudi Arabia a holiday destination for international tourists as well as shed the perception of its unfriendly image due to its strict Islamic laws.
The initiative was announced on April 1, 2018, in preparation for a successful project that was released on December 1, 2018, for the event of Formula E held in the capital city of Riyadh. Electronic visas for entertainment will continue to be issued until the visa preparation is completed and the country’s historical sites for tourists have been adequately prepared.
Currently, the Saudi Arabian eVisa will be available to citizens of the Schengen Area, Africa, Australia, Brunei, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, U.S., and Taiwan. The list is expected to expand in the near future.
By obtaining the Saudi Arabian electronic visa, travelers can also benefit from the opportunity to also visit the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Qatar, its neighboring countries.
When visiting Saudi Arabia, all travelers must respect the Saudi Arabian Islamic laws, values, and traditions.
